Engineering practice transfers across domains; the operational detail does not. Where we operate a product of our own in a sector it is marked venture-backed, and where we have shipped client work it is marked delivered.

In these three we are not advising from the outside. We operate a product in the sector, run it in production, and absorb the cost of every assumption that turns out to be wrong. That is a different kind of knowledge from having delivered a single project.

§ 03Entering a new sector

Four rules for
unfamiliar ground.

Most of our sector knowledge was acquired the same way: by reading a domain properly before writing anything. These four rules are what stop an unfamiliar industry from turning into an expensive education paid for by the client.

Read the domain before proposing anything

We spend the first engagement understanding how the work is done today — the forms, the workarounds, the person keeping it together in a spreadsheet. Sector fluency is earned by reading, not by claiming adjacent experience.

Find the person who does the job today

Not the sponsor and not the committee. The dispatcher, the agent, the accounts clerk. If the design does not survive a conversation with them, it will not survive rollout either.

Build the boring compliance part first

In regulated and paperwork-heavy sectors, the unglamorous obligation is what decides adoption. E-way bills, audit trails, consent records. Shipping the exciting surface first and bolting compliance on later is how these projects die.

Claim only what the record supports

Where we operate a product in a sector or have shipped client work there, the page says so. We do not manufacture a track record to win a first engagement, because it is the second one that pays.

What we build matters more than the vertical it sits in. The practice register lists the engineering itself, and the ventures show what we do when there is no client brief to hide behind.
